I scream, you scream, we all scream for mac & cheese!

A quick and hearty shout-out to my local, Bar Etats-Unis, which was named one of the top ten spots for macaroni and cheese in the city (outer boroughs included, too). Their version is big enough for two, with parmesan and cheddar and a super-rich bechamel base. It comes bubbling hot in a rustic crock, crusty on top and creamy underneath. Awesome stuff, folks, especially with a glass of red wine. Mmmmm...

Wow! Maybe we should check that out when we're there in September...

Oh wow...that looks phenomenal. Mac-n-cheese is number 2 on my list of comfort foods, right below spaghetti-n-meatballs and just above mashed potatoes.

It does look good...

I also looked at the list of best mac 'n cheese in the city. I was surprised that Blue Smoke was left off. Have you ever indulged there?

Also any thoughts as to what makes "comfort food" so appealing? Is it some kind of induced nostalgia?

I was surprised by the Blue Smoke omission as well - I've always enjoyed theirs quite a bit (though I do prefer Etats-Unis' version).

Comfort food...wasn't there a study sometime about endorphins released by high-carb, high-fat foods?
