Someone was listening!

OK, so, it's not as good as the real thing - but it's 58 degrees out today, and headed to be about 65 before things are all said and done. We don't get the asparagus or the strawberries or the ramps yet, but we do get the sunshine and the opportunity to break out the dresses and flats!

To celebrate today's preview of spring, I took a walk along the East River and then hit my favorite local bakery, Two Little Red Hens, for a coffee and a cinnamon roll. Totally sinful, but totally worth it. The roll was a delicious, yeasty nest of buttery icing, plump raisins, and spicy cinnamon. I highly recommend a trip to the Upper East Side (or Park Slope!) to indulge yourself.

What are the rest of you doing to welcome our little burst of springtime?

I love Two Little Red Hens too, their red velvet cupcakes are delicious. I also went out to indulge in the weather for a jog up the East River, nothing like a sunny day for outdoor exercising. And summer dress and flats today? Indeed! : )

That looks delicious. It reminds me of the Cinnamon rolls we used to get at the bakery at Frederick & Nelson in Seattle. They were a little thiner so the tops came up like droopy white topped pyramids. It took a long, long time to eat them since I always thought it would be bad luck to take a bite before I had one unrolled all the way without breaking the ribbon of sticky sweet dough. Ah, our food, we love to play with it and we love to eat it.

We are coning to NY next week for only a few days and they will be filled with family but if you only had one lunch place to choose for your one day on the town what would it be? I love unusual ethnic:)

Thanks for the great blog!

@Jen: Yay for dresses and flats!

@Robin: Thanks for kind words! As for an interesting spot for lunch, a few ideas. Sripraphai, which is out in Queens, is absolutely amazing for Thai food. It's actually only about 15 or 20 minutes from Grand Central, so it's not too out of the way. If you want to stay on Manhattan, you could go get yourself some pho down in Chinatown. My favorite is at Pho Viet Huong, on Mulberry. As you can tell, my tastes run toward Asian food... :-)

Thanks ever so for the lunch ideas! I love asian. There is a restaurant near my rental house in Seattle called the Tamarind Tree that is remarkably good and reasonably priced. I took my sister and family, (including two voracious teens), there for a birthday dinner and it came to $95 for a huge wonderful meal for 6!

I am very jazzed about our all too brief stay in the big apple. It's great to have some possibilities in mind before hand. The only place we go to every time we visit is Carmine's near Wall Street. We have martinis and romantic moments in one of the booths. Last time the bartender told us stories about a ghost in his house.

Thanks again and happy daylight savings time...

Gosh. If it ever WOULD get springlike here, I'd be glad to tell you.

I love Little Red Hens, as well. I've tried a bunch of there offerings, and have yet to find a dud. To celebrate the very brief spring tease this weekend, I had cereal milk soft serve at Momofuku Milk Bar.

Eddie, that sounds great! I have yet to visit Momofuku Milk - it's on my list of things to do during my staycation in April.
